This piece was written as a deconstruction of "Stella by Starlight". While retaining some of the melodic elements of the original, I crafted an entirely new modal chord progression and form. I believe the result to be a pleasing mix of the familiar and the new.

Strange Resemblance

"Strange Resemblance" was written as a contrafact on "There Will Never Be Another You". However, the piece opens with an original 24-bar modal blues, replete with Oliver Nelson-esque horn voicings. After solos on this form, the piece then leads gracefully into my contrafact on "There Will Never Be Another You". There are several nice horn 'soli' moments in this work.
